Sam Boyd, CFP®
Founder and President | Confido
As the founder and president of Confido Advice & Investments, I bring more than 14 years of experience helping leaders of varying stakeholders ensure their life’s work has the highest impact on the people and causes that matter most to them and avoid the “shirt sleeves to shirt sleeves” proverb of family wealth lost in three generations.
I had an affinity for math from a young age and later discovered finance at Christopher Newport University (CNU), where I majored in finance with a pre-law concentration. Along with three classmates, I founded the CNU Investment Club. I was also a member of Alpha Kappa Psi, the oldest and largest co-ed business fraternity in which I facilitated pro bono financial planning and tax preparation services in the local community as part of our mission.
It was the depths of the Great Recession, and the decision regarding my career path after graduation rested on whether I wanted to amass significant student debt by attending law school or “being my own boss” at a well-known rent-a-car franchise. The decision was made easy when I was granted a “scholarship”—a $500 check with the promise of a job—for leadership and civic engagement upon graduation.
I subsequently went to work at a regional broker-dealer. After many cold calls and passing all my licensing exams in 10 months, I went home to Northern Virginia for a fresh start, taking with me lessons in perseverance and entrepreneurialism.
Prior to launching Confido Advice & Investments, I served as Senior Vice President and Partner of CAPITAL Asset Management Group (CAMG) for more than a decade. Prior to CAMG, I served as the Director of Operations and Business Development for Krekeler Brower Wealth Advisors.
Away from the office, I enjoy spending time with my wife, Christina, daughter, Ruby, beagle, Roux, and family and friends. I also love traveling, enjoying a good meal with loved ones, getting back to nature on our family farm, having great conversations, and solving problems.
I have served on the Board of Directors of the Financial Planning Association, National Capital Area chapter, since 2016 and as President in 2024. Previously, I sat on the Board of Directors of Carpenter’s Shelter, Northern Virginia’s largest homeless shelter, and Community Residences Inc., a community-based nonprofit that focuses on providing personalized resources to people with developmental disabilities and mental health needs. Before taking on various Board of Directors roles, I taught financial literacy throughout the Northern Virginia region as a volunteer for Our Daily Bread.
